The armaments category accounted for the smallest share, at 1.1 percent.

What It Means

The European Union's efforts toward tech sovereignty aim to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, particularly China and the United States. The European Commission is proposing legislation that could restrict the access of non-European companies to public contracts in the defense and healthcare sectors. For consumers and businesses, this could lead to changes in the availability and cost of technological products, as the bloc attempts to strengthen domestic capabilities in cloud, artificial intelligence, and chips.

Different Views

The European Union recorded a trade deficit of 92 billion euros with China in 2024, while other deficits exceeding 10 billion euros were observed with Taiwan and Vietnam. On the other hand, the European Union has a positive trade balance with countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. The debate over how protective the internal market should be remains a subject of discussion among policymakers seeking a balance between economic security and global competition.

Was das bedeutet
